Icon Spelling!

Being that I stare at a computer and these icons about 18 hours a day...I am sad that I never thought of this myself! I found it to be pretty clever when I saw {these words} spelled out using the Apple icons - work by {Mike Giepert}.

Vintage Steel Letterforms

I always love finding great vintage items that would make awesome decorative pieces in a home - this is definitely one of them! These {stainless steel letterforms} were "rescued" from a 1950's era New York parking garage that was being demolished in 2002. They are in great condition after being cleaned up really well - they would look great on the wall, and many of them stand on their own.

Google Maps Typography

So, I have previously posted similar typographical studies - one using fire and the other using architectural photography - here is one more! With Google Maps being so popular these days, I found this to be pretty awesome. {Rhett Dashwood} is a Creative Director with experience in a broad range of creative media, including interactive, animation, branding, print, film making and digital art. He currently resides in Melbourne, Australia. Over the course of several months, he spent time between commercial projects searching Google Maps hoping to discover land formations or buildings resembling letter forms. He limited his results to be within the state of Victoria, Australia. If you visit his site, he has a link for each letter to the actual location on Google Maps.

This is a brilliantly executed typography study, {Himmel Über Berlin} by {Jan-Patric Metzger} How cool is it that this was done photographically!?

Typeface Periodic Table

Whenever we had to study the periodic table in school, I literally wanted to cry every time. I hated it. When I saw this Typeface periodic table by an artist who had posted their work on {Behance}, it actually made me happy. I think this is very cleaver and creative. It lists 100 of the most popular, influential and notorious typefaces today. Table of Typefaces groups by families and classes of typefaces: sans-serif, serif, script, blackletter, glyphic, display, grotesque, realist, didone, garalde, geometric, humanist, slab-serif and mixed. Each cell includes an example of the typeface being used, the name, and the designer who created the typeface, the year it was designed and a ranking of 1 through 100.

Awesome Sewing Books!

Packaging plays a pretty large role in whether or not I purchase products. I think it says a lot about the product itself as well as the quality when a lot of care, attention, and detail goes into the design of the packaging itself. I just received these three sewing books that I had purchased online - it was pretty exciting, I'm not gonna lie. I have come to learn that you just can't go wrong with {Amy Butler} prints and patterns, but in terms of book design and packaging, no one does it better than {Chronicle Books}. The first is Amy Butler's {INSTITCHES}, the second is a box set of pattern cards by Amy Butler as well, called {Sew-It Kit}, and the third is a book by the wonderful Lotta Jansdotter called {Simple Sewing}. I can easily say that every project in these books are ones I want to work on. Now as far as the two Amy Butler sets go, I was at first slightly disappointing that I did not know most of the patterns overlapped and were in both. If I were to have to choose one, it would be the INSTITCHES, because it has additional patterns, but because the packaging of the box set is so wonderfully done, I will not be returning it. The design and typography are done so well! I am very impressed and equally inspired. Stay tuned to see what I am going to work on...first step...go to {The Cotton Ball} in Morro Bay, CA to pick fabrics!

Baskerville Coasters!

This may seem weird for some people, but if you are a type nerd like I am, you might agree that these are pretty sweet! The {Bamboo Type Coasters} come in a set of four and are made up of the typeface Baskerville - Semibold.

Grammy-Inspired Typographic Art

So I was at the gym this morning, trying to get back into a habit of going regularly (we'll see
how that goes...), and I saw one of these Grammy ads in a magazine I was reading. I thought it was pretty awesome and wanted to share for those of you who love typography as much as I
do or just like cool designs!
